Originally set to drop in theatres on October 9, Robert Zemeckis’s The Witches will now be heading straight to HBO Max on October 22, with select theatrical dates internationally on October 28. We’ve got the first trailer for Zemeckis’s adaptation of the classic Roald Dahl children’s novel, which was a foundational text for me as a horror fan. I remember the 1990 adaptation starring Rowan Atkinson and Angelica Huston scaring the absolute tar out of me when I was a kid, especially this scene:
The story is about a young boy who, while staying with his grandmother in a hotel, encounters a gathering of witches, led by the Grand High Witch, who aim to turn every child into a mouse. The trailer looks great and adds a fresh look and feel to the timeless story.
Zemeckis’s refresh stars newcomer Jahzir Kadeem Bruno, Anne Hathaway, Octavia Spencer, Stanley Tucci, Chris Rock and Kristin Chenoweth.
