“Angel Has Fallen” Rises to the top of the Box Office

The third entry in the …Has Fallen franchise arrived on top of the box office, while a new horror offering couldn’t find a wider audience.

Angel Has Fallen with Gerard Butler and Morgan Freeman arrive in first place with $21.25 million. It’s only 3% off from London Has Fallen‘s opening 3 years ago, which is not a bad place for a sequel to land. Expect a quick dropoff though, as we head into September and the upcoming It: Chapter 2 on September 6th.

As for the rest of the top five, Good Boys was in second place with $11.7 million. Overcomer debut in third place $8.2 million. Disney’s The Lion King was in fourth place with $8.15 million, while Hobbs and Shaw was in fifth place with $8.14 million.

As for the excellent Ready or Not, audiences just didn’t turn out to see it, as it debut outside the top five in sixth place $7.5 million. A very disappointing result, to be sure.

So, to recap, here were our predictions:

1) Angel Has Fallen – $16 million
2) Ready or Not – $13 million
3) Good Boys – $11 million
4) Hobbs and Shaw – $10 million
5) Disney’s The Lion King – $8 million
