‘The Lion King’ Comes To Life With A Record-Breaking Debut Weekend

The Lion King roared at the box office this weekend.

The latest “live-action” Disney film held off some not so kind reviews to debut in first place with $185 million. That’s the biggest July opening in move history, topping the $169 million Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 delivered back in 2011.

It was a solid weekend for Disney, as along with the release of The Lion King, Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Endgame became the biggest moneymaker of all time, hitting $2.790 billion worldwide and beating Avatar‘s decade long run at $2.789 billion.

As for the rest of the top five, Spider-Man: Far From Home was in second place with $21 million. Toy Story 4 was in third place with $14.6 million. Crawl was in fourth place with $6 million, while Yesterday closed things out in fifth place with $5 million.

So, to recap, here were our predictions:

1) Disney’s The Lion King -$185 million
2) Spider-Man: Far From Home – $23 million
3) Toy Story 4 – $14 million
4) Yesterday – $6.5 million
5) Crawl – $6 million
