It was another big money weekend for the film that brings the Marvel Cinematic Universe to a (temporary) crashing halt, as Avengers: Infinity War spent another weekend in the top spot at the box office.
Infinity War brought in a stellar $64 million in its third weekend in release, bringing its North American total to $550 million and counting. The film should hit $600 million by the end of next weekend, and will likely top out in and around $650 million by the end of its theatrical run. Next week it will give up the top spot to Deadpool 2, but at this point, more money is just more gravy for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
As for the rest of the top five, it was a poor showing all around for new releases. Melissa McCarthy’s Life of the Party debut in second place with an underwhelming $18.2 million, while Gabrielle Union’s Breaking In wasn’t far behind it in third place with $16.5 million. Overboard was in fourth place with $10.1 million, while A Quiet Place closed out the top five with $6.35 million.
It’s worth noting that, even with its release on digital home video this past week, Black Panther still made $2 million at the box office. It’s currently $4 million away from hitting $700 million. I’m fairly certain that Disney and Marvel will keep T’Challa and company in theatres for a few more weeks so that Black Panther can hit that milestone number.
So, to recap, here were our predictions:
1) Avengers: Infinity War – $60 million
2) Life of the Party – $19 million
3) Breaking In – $16 million
4) Overboard – $6 million
5) A Quiet Place – $3.5 million
And here’s how the weekend is estimated to turn out:
1) Avengers: Infinity War – $64 million
2) Life of the Party – $18.2 million
3) Breaking In – $16.5 million
4) Overboard – $10.1 million
5) A Quiet Place – $6.35 million
Next weekend sees the release of Deadpool 2. Be sure to check back on Friday to see our predictions!
