The Action of ‘Rampage’ Squeaks to the Top of the Box Office

Biff Bam Pop’s Editor-In-Chief and regular Box Office columnist, Andy Burns, is on the “rampage” road today, so I’m (ably) filling in for the rock’n’roller on his Cleveland weekender. With my track record, I’m better at looking back at numbers than prognosticating the future of them.

Andy, you see, is currently on his way home from this past weekend’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. Along with two of his best buddies, the road trip took in the historic fist-pumping, head-bobbing and toe-tapping sights and sounds of Bon Jovi, The Cars, Questlove and famous rock and roll music manager, Doc McGhee. Not to mention the tastes of Mabel’s BBQ and the thrill of the Toronto Blue Jays coming from behind to beat the hometown Cleveland Indians in a 8-4 romp.

Not a bad weekend, boys!

But was he as rockin’ with his Box Office predictions? Let’s take a look at Andy’s predictions:

1) Rampage – $43 million
2) A Quiet Place – $42 million
3) Blumhouse’s Truth or Dare – $16 million
4) Ready Player One – $14 million
5) Blockers – $12 million

In-your-face rockin’ actuality:

1) Rampage – $34.5 million
2) A Quiet Place – $32.6 million
3) Blumhouse’s Truth or Dare – $19 million
4) Ready Player One – $11.2 million
5) Blockers – $10.3 million

Well, maybe the poor weather here in the in the northeast kept people out of the theatres to a certain degree. Rain and frozen rain and the weather people telling you to stay at home certainly doesn’t help with box office receipts. That said, Andy got the Top 5 bang on.

The action-packed, Dwayne Johnson-starring, Rampage just barely made it to first place in its debut weekend. But the real, totally awesome surprise this weekend was in a completely different genre. That’s quiet a loud haul for the horror-tinged A Quiet Place. Was anyone thinking it would make approximately $100 million in just ten days? Impressive.

Andy’s is going to be hard pressed to keep his rocking ways rocking on next weekend. Theatregoers will have the newly released I Feel Pretty starring Amy Schumer and the slapstick comedic Super Troopers 2 to look forward to seeing.

Check back with us on Friday for Andy’s next road trip of rock’n‘ roll box office predictions!
