‘Red Sparrow,’ ‘Death Wish’ Look to Dethrone ‘Black Panther’

The King should have no trouble ruling his castle for another weekend at the box office, even with the arrival of a few new films. How will they perform? Here’s our prediction:

Red Sparrow is the new Jennifer Lawrence R-rated spy film that reunites her with Francis Laurence, who directed three out of the four Hunger Games films. That duo together again should be a draw for some, but Lawrence’s last film, mother!, was a bust at the box office, which could impact the film. There’s also the presence of another R-rated film entering the ring as well. With that in mind, look for Red Sparrow to debut in second place with $22 million.

Also out this weekend is the Death Wish remake, starring Bruce Willis and directed by the always devisive Eli Roth. This is absolutely an interesting film to watch, as it has been a while since Bruce Willis top-lined a film that’s actually hitting theatres. However, Willis is still perceived as a star, and Death Wish, though a questionable remake, is a name people remember. Look for a third place debut with $18 million.

As for the rest of the top five, Black Panther will continue its reign at number one with $70 million. Game Night will be in fourth with $11 million, while Peter Rabbit will close things out in fifth place with $7 million.

So, to recap, here are our predictions:

1) Black Panther – $70 million
2) Red Sparrow – $22 million
3) Death Wish – $18 million
4) Game Night – $11 million
5) Peter Rabbit – $7 million

Be sure to check back on Sunday to see how the weekend turns out!
