Beauty and the Beast reigns, Power Rangers soar at the box office

It was another outstanding weekend for Disney’s latest remake, while a new reboot actually managed to deliver as well. Here’s what went down:

Beauty and the Beast had an incredible second weekend, bringing in an estimated $89.7 million, raising its two week total to close to $320 million. The filmed barely dropped 50% week to week, and it is clearly on its way to making more than $400 million. Could $500 million be in its grasp? Quite possibly.

Debuting in second place with an estimated $40 million is Power Rangers. This is a very solid showing, demonstrating that there’s real life in this 90s franchise that was never given very much respect. Though critics weren’t particularly kind to Power Rangers, audiences are responding.

As for the rest of the top five, Kong: Skull Island was in third place with $14.7 million. Life debut in fourth place with $12.2 million, thanks to poor reviews and audience anticipating for the next Alien film winning out over the combination of Jake Gyllenhaal and Ryan Reynolds in space. Logan closed things out in fifth place with $10 million, as the film crossed the $200 million mark.

So, to recap, here were our predictions:

1) Beauty and the Beast – $89 million
2) Power Rangers – $32 million
3) Life – $22 million
4) Logan – $8.8 million
5) Get Out – $6 million

2) Power Rangers – $40 million
3) Kone: Skull Island – $14.7 million
