Melissa McCarthy looks to prove she’s The Boss this weekend

It should be an interesting weekend at the box office, as pundits continue to observe the financial repercussions of the dark tone of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. Will the film hold on to the top spot, or will a new comedy be able to take it down? Here’s our prediction:

Melissa McCarthy is very much the golden star of comedies right now. Her movies typically bring in a strong, cross-section of people – women and men like her because she’s damn funny. Even though reviews for her latest, The Boss, are far from the definition of good, people are usually willing to go out and see her films. This one should be no different. Look for a first place showing with $24 million.

Also debuting is the hard-R action film Hardcore Henry, which is filmed in first person and has been garnering some strong reviews. This under the radar movie should debut in fourth place with $9 million.

As for the rest of the top five, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice will likely take another steep hit at the box office. Look for it in second place with $23 million. Zootopia will grab third place with $15 million, while My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 will close things out in fifth with $7 million.

So, to recap, here are our predictions:

1) The Boss – $24 million
2) Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice – $23 million
3) Zootopia – $15 million
4) Hardcore Henry – $9 million
5) My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 – $7 million
