Can Deadpool make it three weeks in a row on top of the box office? Judging by the strength of the new releases, there’s certainly a strong chance. Here’s our predictions:
Nobody, and that includes FOX, ever would have considered the possibility that Deadpool would become the highest grossing film in the X-Men franchise. But as it stands, Deadpool has already made an outstanding $250 million in North America alone, the most money of any X-film. Its success should continue on this weekend – look for a first place showing with $32 million. Give it another week and Deadpool is guaranteed to cross the $300 mark.
Opening this weekend are three films that carry with them virtually no heat – Gods of Egypt from director Alex Proyas, Eddie The Eagle with Hugh Jackman, and Triple 9, a heist film with an ensemble cast led by Anthony Mackie. There’s simply been little to no buzz for all three movies, and that’s going to be evident when the weekend numbers come in Sunday. Look for Gods of Egypt to hit second place with $11 million, Triple 9 to be behind it with $10 million, while Eddie The Eagle will debut in fourth place with $9 million.
Closing out the top five will be Kung Fu Panda 3 with $7.5 million.
So, to recap, here are our predictions:
1) Deadpool – $32 million
2) Gods of Egypt – $11 million
3) Triple 9 – $10 million
4) Eddie The Eagle – $9 million
5) Kung Fu Panda 3 – $7.5 million

Just saw Gods of Egypt. Bad movie. Doesn’t look to be threat for Deadpool this weekend at the box office.
Yeah, I originally thought “Gods of Egypt” had a shot at the 20-25 million opening range, but the reviews are as awful as the trailers led us to believe…such a shame considering the cast and subject matter could have made for a very fun movie.
I have some interest in the film, because I like Dark City. That being said, I’ve never been a fan of The Crow or I, Robot. Will you make time to see it, Leo?
