Biff Bam Pop’s Holiday Gift Guide 2014: Fantasy Knives and Swords

During my lifetime, I have found that there is one gift for my fellow male gender that almost always hits the mark… weapons!  My fascination with weaponry got started when I was about 13 years old.  My father had returned from a business trip to the Philippines and had brought home a butterfly knife for both me and my younger brother.  We grew up on a ranch with strict rules about weapons so we understood that these knives were not toys, but rather symbols of our coming of age as men.  Over the years I’ve added several more knives and a few swords to my collection, my wife being the catalyst for most of those acquisitions.

You can find a great selection of fantasy (and practical) weaponry both online and at your local cutlery and sporting goods stores, so no worries if you haven’t finished all of your Holiday shopping yet.  Let’s cover the three basic categories of weaponry that I recommend giving as gifts:

1) Knives

Under this category there are three additional sub-categories to consider: Practical (camping, survival), Fantasy-Practical (meant for decoration, but you could still use it to fend off a zombie at close range) and Fantasy (leave these on the shelf during the zombie apocalypse):

 

 

 

 

 

All three of these knives are part of my collection and range in price from about $15 to $50.

2) Swords

I’m not sure how ‘practical’ owning a sword (or swords) is, but they’re an awful lot of fun to look at… and, if you keep the sword sharpened because you’ve watched too many episodes of “The Walking Dead,” you should be able to behead a zombie without risking getting bitten.

Craftsmanship does count here, but since this is about Holiday gift ideas, feel free to focus more on ‘looks’ than construction.  Here are a few examples of popular swords to own:

 

The price range is extremely broad when purchasing swords.  My recommendation is to set your budget first ($50, $150, $500) and then began shopping accordingly.

3) Fantasy Weapons – ‘Everything Else’

In order to keep this article at a reasonable length, I’m going to cover just three key items in this category: Throwing Stars (because ninjas are cool), Spears (they look great hanging on the wall…that is, if your wife or significant other allows it) and Axes (my weapon of choice for home intruders):

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Again, the price range is extremely broad on these items.  If your budget is under $50, I recommend going with a weapon that was featured in one of your special someone’s favorite movies.  Otherwise, establish your budget and then buy the baddest, most awesome weapon you can find!
