The Judge vs Dracula Untold – Biff Bam Pop’s Box Office Predictions

This weekend sees the release of at least two movies hoping to grab your box office dollars. Will any of them deliver? Here’s our predictions:

The_Judge_2014_film_posterThe Judge is the latest from Robert Downey Jr., the highest-paid actor in the world. There’s been lots of solid acclaim for the film, which debut at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, with talk of costar Robert Duvall possibly scoring an Oscar nomination for his role. While it may not be Iron Man or Sherlock Holmes, audiences are currently in love with Robert Downey Jr. and it should show this weekend with The Judge opening with a decent amount for a dramatic film. Look for a fourth place showing with $15 million.

Also opening this weekend is Dracula Untold, a film that many are saying will reboot and realign the Universal Pictures monster movie franchises. The film is an interpretation of Dracula’s origin, which to be fair is something we’ve never actually seen on the big screen. Will this classic character actually have an appeal to younger mainstream filmgoers? It’s hard to say – there are no big superstars in the film, and horror fans may have already been placated with the success of last weekends Annabelle. Look for a third-place showing for Dracula Untold with $20 million.

As for the rest of the top five, Gone Girl should hold onto the top spot for another weekend with $25 million. Annabelle will once again be second with $22 million, while new family release Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No-Good, Very Bad Day will debut in fifth place with a not very good $13 million.

So, to recap, here are our predictions:

1) Gone Girl – $25 million
2) Annabelle – $22 million
3) Dracula Unbound – $20 million
4) The Judge – $15 million
5) Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No-Good, Very bad Day – $13 million

Be sure to check back on Sunday to see how the weekend turns out.

  1. Both movies I want to see; and Gone Girl as well; however I as I almost never make it to the movies, as usual I’ll wait until they hit Netflix. Though I am going to read Gone Girl this weekend, so it’s like I’m contributing vicariously, right?
