The Wolf of Wall Street vs The Secret Life of Walter Mitty – Biff Bam Pop’s Box Office Predictions

This weekend could prove to be an interesting one, as films released on Christmas Day are looking to bring in an audience. Will Leo prove a draw? What about Ben Stiller? Or will The Hobbit hang on to the top spot? Here are our predictions:

WallStreet2013posterThe Wolf Of Wall Street reteams director Martin Scorsese with his go-to leading man of more than a decade, Leonardo DiCaprio. The duo tend to be more hit than miss in my estimation, but this tag-team won’t be enough to top the first spot at the box office. Look for a third place showing with $22 million.

Find out how the rest of the weekend will turn out after the jump!
The_Secret_Life_of_Walter_Mitty_posterThe Secret Life Of Walter Mitty finds Ben Stiller in front and behind the director’s chair once again, in a film about a daydreamer uninvolved with the real world. Stiller as a solo star doesn’t tend to have the best pedigree – it’s when he’s got a foil (Cameron Diaz, Robert DeNiro) that he really generates results at the box office. However, this is a positive film that will likely resonate with families at this time of year. Look for a fourth place showing with $19 million.

As for the rest of the top five, I’m going to make one of my bold and unexpected predictions – look for Frozen to push ahead of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug to score the number one position at the box office with $29 million. The Hobbit will be right behind it with $27.5 million, while the under performing Anchorman 2 will round out the top five with $18 million.

Other new films out this weekend that won’t make the top five include 47 Ronin and Grudge Match.

So, to recap, here are our predictions:

1) Frozen – $29 million
2) The Hobbit: The Deolation of Smaug – $27.5 million
3) The Wolf Of Wall Street – $22 million
4) The Secret Life of Walter Mitty – $19 million
5) Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues – $18 million

Be sure to check back on Sunday to see how the weekend turns out!
