The World’s End vs The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones – Biff Bam Pop’s Box Office Predictions

Summer’s coming to an end, which means The World’s End is upon us. By that, I mean the brand new film from Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, the brain trust behind Shaun Of The Dead and Hot Fuzz. Will the film top the box office, or with another supernatural new release take it down? Here’s our prediction:

hr_The_Worlds_End_5We geeks love Frost, Pegg, and Wright, don’t we? Those guys have created what I consider to be the greatest zombie movie of all time in Shaun Of The Dead, and the fact that they’re all such close friends means their work together is legitimately something special. However, with all of their talent, it’s worth noting that their work together hasn’t generated huge box office dollars. So while we geeks, nerds and pop culture lovers may be wildly excited about The World’s End, I have a feeling the masses aren’t as much. Look for a fourth place debut with $10 million

So what film will keep it from the top? Find out after the jump!
The_Mortal_Instruments_-_City_of_Bones_PosterThe Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones is the first film adaptation of the Cassandra Clare bestselling series of supernatural teen novels. Rest assured, general consensus is that books are much better than the Twilight series, and this adaptation has been getting decent reviews. It may not be a huge hit, but it should bring in a fair number of its desired audience this weekend. Look for a first place showing with $20 million.

As for the rest of the top five, Lee Daniels’ The Butler will hit second place with $19.5 million, We’re The Millers will grab third place with $15.5 million, while Planes will close things out with $8 million.

So, to recap, here are predictions:

1) The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones – $20 million
2) Lee Daniels’ The Butler – $19.5 million
3) We’re The Millers – $13.5 million
4) The World’s End –  $10 million
5) Planes – $8 million

Be sure to check back on Sunday to see how the weekend turns out!
