People tend to keep strange photos on their cell phones, don’t they? You know this better than most.
Don’t think so? Well, the next time you’re sitting on the bench, hydrating yourself from a rousing game of indoor soccer, try accidentally flipping through your buddy’s collection of pics on his new Galaxy S3. Quizzical looks and/or hilarity must surely follow if not an intervention of some sort.
You could also try hitting the “Explore” page on your iPhone’s Instagram app and be amazed at what people post for public consumption. This is especially true if you’re a parent. Heck, just visit the TMZ website and shake your head with disdain at this generation’s eroded examples of heroes and icons.
Yep. Strange, often incriminating, photos abound out there.
So, how about finding a cell phone containing photographs of a murder scene? How’s that for strange? Worrisome? Thrilling? That’s the premise of Snapshot, a hard-boiled tale that demands to be read – and seen!
Snapshot #1

Written and illustrated by the Brit tandem, Andy Diggle and Jock (the team that gave us the critically acclaimed The Losers and Green Arrow: Year One), Snapshot is the duo’s first creator-owned project. It’s a four-issue mini-series that tells the tale of comic book store employee Jake Dobson who finds a lost cell phone containing the photos of a horrendous murder. Of course, the owner of the phone, a cold-blooded hitman, comes looking for his property.
Snapshot is a fast-moving thriller with a mysterious conspiratorial element at its core. What more could you want in a comic? If you enjoyed either of the two creative forces previous work, you’ll love this series. And if you haven’t read any of their stuff, I can’t recommend it enough. (The Losers, as an aside, was made into a feature length film – and although it didn’t do great at the box office, it’s a super fun ride that deserves to be seen!)
Which bring me to another point. Elements of Diggle and Jock’s run on Green Arrow: Year One have actually become story points in the current hit Arrow television series. There’s definitely a cinematic quality to their work and I wonder: could a film version of Snapshot be far behind?
If there is, when it comes out in local theatres, you could tell your soccer buddy with the strange photos on his Galaxy S3 that Snapshot was a comic book series first. And that he might want to make a few key file deletions in the device. After all, who knows what happens to the photos on a lost cell phone?
