DVD Tuesday with Scotty G

The Mechanic – This film stars Jason Statham, who plays a character that is known as “The Mechanic” (which means assassin). When his mentor (played by Donald Sutherland) is killed, the mentor’s son (played by Ben Foster) tracks him down and wants Statham to train him as an assassin. Together, they team up to exact revenge on the people responsible for killing Donald Sutherland’s character. The film was not a big hit at the box office, but in my opinion, Jason Statham films usually do find an audience on DVD.

The Rite – This film stars Anthony Hopkins and is about a young seminary student who goes to Rome to study exorcisms. The young student thinks that the devil is not responsible for making people act the way they do, but has his beliefs seriously challenged when he studies exorcisms with Hopkins character and they take on a case that might be too much for either of them. The film did not set the box office on fire, but the premise is intriguing and Hopkins presence adds credibility for audiences, so it should do well on the small screen.

The Roommate – This films stars Leighton Meester and Minka Kelly and is about the question that most people ask when they go to university or college: will I have a cool roommate? In this case, the answer is no. The film was #1 at the box office when it was released and features a young cast that most teenagers know, but unless you are under the age of 20, I doubt this film is for you.

Thor: Tales of Asgard – This animated tale follows the adventures of Thor as a teenager. Set in the time before the current big-screen hit Thor, Thor: Tales of Asgard follows Thor, Loki and The Warriors Three on a quest for the Lost Sword of Surtur. As is always the case in adventure stories, things don’t go quite as planned and it is up to Thor to save the day and Asgard. This Direct-to-DVD film will really only appeal to fans of the current big screen film and of the comics.

TV on DVD:

All in the Family: The Complete Ninth Season
The Bionic Woman: Season 2
Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job: Season Cinco
