Biff Bam Pop’s Box Office Predictions – Weekend of October 29th, 2010

Scotty G continues to be on vacation, which means I’ve got this week’s box office predictions for you.

imageSaw 3D, the seventh and supposedly last chapter in the horror franchise, is the only big release this weekend. The bloom was definitely off this series rose last year, when Saw VI was held out of the number one spot at the box office by a little film called Paranormal Activity. This year will likely be different, thanks to the allure of 3D decapitations and the upfront demand for Paranormal Activity 2 having already been met. That being said, Jigsaw and the Saw franchise is tired and worn, which means it’s weekend take-home will likely be underwhelming. I’m guessing we’ll see Saw 3D take the top spot with $22 million.

Paranormal Activity 2 will likely have a large drop from its $40 million plus opening weekend, but that’s really to be expected with any horror film. The buzz has been strong and the reviews positive, so the movie should still have legs for a few more weeks. I’m predicting $20 million for week two, but if it somehow manages to outperform Saw 3D I won’t necessarily be surprised.

As for the rest of the top 5, I’m guessing since Jackass 3D will screens to Saw 3D, it will bring in about $15 million. Red is playing well with older audiences who don’t have much choice at the multiplexes right now. I think it will end the weekend with another $10 million to it’s name. Rounding out the top 5 will be Hereafter, underperforming with roughly $7 million.

So to recap:

1) Saw 3D: $22 million

2) Paranormal Activity 2: $20 million

3) Jackass 3D: $15 million

4) Red: $10 million

5) Hereafter: $7 million

Check back Sunday to see how I did!
