Trailer Time: Clash Of The Titans

Our entertainment world is full of remakes – Halloween, A Nightmare On Elm Street, V, The Prisoner. Now depending on your point of view, these remakes are either completely needless and illustrates the continuing decline of intelligent ideas in Hollywood or they’re clever and unique updates of timeless concepts and stories. As a fan I’ve enjoyed seeing a contemporary version of the Visitors and what sort of twisted spin Rob Zombie has put on Michael Myers (for better or for worse), but I bristle at the idea of anyone other than Robert Englund portraying Freddie Krueger.

Which brings us to the trailer for the remake of Clash Of The Titans, the 1981 Greek mythology classic with stop-motion animation by Ray Harryhausen and a mechanical owl named Bubo. This is one remake that I have some high hopes for. While the effects utilized to create hideous Medusa and the monstrous Kraken were solid for the time, there’s no question that they’re fairly dated now and worthy of being revisited with today’s technology. In this version, Harry Hamlin’s Perseus is played by Sam Worthington, Lawrence Olivier’s Zeus is embodied by Liam Neeson, and Ralph Fiennes is Hades, God of the underworld. It’s safe to say that the film already has a strong cast going for it. Add in director Louis Lettier, who I feel did a stellar job on his reboot of The Incredible Hulk last year, and I think the potential for this remake is high.
