Ice Age:  Dawn of the Dinosaurs – The third entry in the franchise comes out on DVD this week and was actually a big performer in the summer.  It didn’t have a huge opening weekend, as it only grossed $41.6 million, but it ended up grossing $196.1 million, and become the highest grossing film in the franchise.  Only 22.3% of its gross came from its opening weekend.  This entry has the Ice Age gang dealing with an angry T-Rex.  I was a fan of the first film, but not of the second, so we’ll see how the third one does.

Orphan – This film is about a little girl who is adopted by a family and wrecks havoc on their lives.  The premise is much like the film The Good Son, except The Good Son was about a cousin who went mad.  Orphan did not set the box office on fire when it was released.  With Halloween around the corner, Orphan is hoping to get some added views from horror fans.

Whatever Works – Woody Allen’s latest film stars Larry David and is about what most Woody Allen films are about – relationships.  This one deals with an old man/young woman relationship as Larry David is involved with Evan Rachel Wood.  I’ll be honest, I have not seen very many Woody Allen films, but this one has some buzz about it because of Larry David’s involvement.

Nothing Like The Holidays – I don’t know how many people remember this film being released, but it came out in December of last year.  The film is about a family getting together for a Christmas, and it’s the first time in a long time that everyone is able to get together.  It’s a comedy drama, and I’m surprised that the DVD is not being released after American Thanksgiving, as this film fits the mood of getting together for the holidays.

Tinkerbell and the Lost Treasure – In this Direct-to-DVD film, Tinkerbell goes on an adventure to a far away part of Never Never Land to help bring back to life a Pixie Dust Tree.  Without reading the plot, you know if you are going to watch this DVD or not.

Battlestar Galactica:  The Plan – I’ve never watched the TV series and apparently this Direct-to-DVD takes existing sequences from the show and adds some new material to them.  From what I have read, the story revolves around the Cylons’ point of view of what has happened in the show.

Stan Helsing – I have seen the trailer for this, and it looks awful.  It is a parody of horror films, and it is about a video clerk named Stan Helsing, who along with his friends, detour into a town where all the main horror movie villains live.  Comedic hijinks follow.  The film co-stars Leslie Nielsen.

Il Divo – This highly acclaimed film is not about the pop group, but is about Italian Prime Minister Giulio Andreotti, who was elected to parliament seven times.  From what I read, it is not a flattering account of the man, but you might remember the film more from the images and not the story because it is also very stylized (Nothing I have read ever elaborates on the style, but just says that it is stylized).  It was a winner at Cannes in 2008, and won many Italian Film Awards.
