31 Days of Horror – The Man Who Laughs
The Man Who Laughs from 1928 should be remembered alongside other silent classics like The Phantom of the Opera and The Hunchback of Notre Dame but somehow it slipped between the cracks over the years. Making this oversight more upsetting is the fact that this film was pretty much the blueprint for what would become the Universal horrors of the 1930s. More after the jump.

The Joke’s On Batman #12 On The Wednesday Run – August 8, 2012
Over the past twelve months, since the launch of DC Comics’ “New 52” wherein the publishing company re-numbered every title with a new #1, writer Scott Snyder has been crafting a Batman tale long in the making. Well, long in comic book terms.
You see, he’s gone back to the origins of Gotham and reshaped the architecture of what we, as readers, had grown accustomed to: that the city was Batman’s. That no one knew its streets, alleyways, buildings and history as well as the Dark Knight Detective.
Over the last twelve months, Scott Snyder has made an overconfident Batman weak with his distinct lack of historical knowledge. He discovers, in essence, that he doesn’t know his own city! And we readers have followed the character in his naivety, making for some startling – and amazingly fun – reading!

1. Read The Vengeance of Bane pt. 1, by Chuck Dixon and Graham Nolan (no relation to director Christopher Nolan), published by DC Comics in 1993. This single issue chronicles the character’s origin and places Bane as the protagonist. You will be rooting for him when you’ve finished reading. You can find it as a single issue or in a collected volume.

March Madness – Glenn Walker Takes A Tour Of Arkham Asylum
Arkham Asylum. Now that’s a name that provokes fear and terror for many. Officially named the Elizabeth Arkham Asylum for the Criminally Insane, the hospital/prison is where many of Gotham City’s, and the DC Comics universe’s, most dangerous deranged criminals are incarcerated. From a minor reference in one comic book, it has become so much bigger, most recently with two huge selling videogames and what looks to be a major plotline in one of this summer’s surefire blockbusters, The Dark Knight Rises.
