The Croods Rule, Olympus Has Fallen Breaks Out – Biff Bam Pop’s Weekend Box Office Wrap-Up Report

T’was a big weekend at the box office, with a big debut from two films, one that I totally discounted from the top five predictions I made on Friday. So what went down? Read on.

The Croods_1As expected, The Croods had a huge opening weekend, grossing a strong $44 million. Dreamworks + big name voice talent + family friendly = the top of the box office heap. We’ll have to see if the film can keep its momentum heading into Easter weekend, but for this weekend, The Croods get bragging rights.

The Croods vs Admission vs Spring Breakers – Biff Bam Pop’s Box Office Predictions

A few new films are looking to unseat Oz: The Great And Powerful from it’s spot atop the box office. Will any of them have the heart to do it? Here are our predictions:

The_Croods_posterIf any film has a chance of knocking off Oz, it’s The Croods. From Dreamworks Pictures and featuring a voice cast that includes  Nicolas Cage, Ryan Reynolds and Emma Stone, this prehistoric animated flick is definitely going to bring in a family audience that may be looking for something new after catching Oz. So far, The Croods has been getting solid reviews, and awareness is high thanks to ads and apps, so look for a first place showing with $40 million.

Bones (8pm): A film adaptation of Brennan’s latest book takes her and Booth to Los Angeles for the production, where Brennan criticizes the acting and disregard for science, but the trip takes a strange turn when a prop cadaver happens to be a real murder victim. Meanwhile, Booth gets a job offer to work on the studio lot; and Cam’s past comes back to haunt her. Check out the “epic” trailer for the fictional movie below.
