The Possession Takes Possession Of The Top Spot – Biff Bam Pop’s Weekend Box Office Wrap-Up Report
It was one of the slowest box office weekends of the year, which meant small returns for the new releases. Here’s how the weekend turned out.
The Possession scared up enough money to become the number one film at the box office this weekend, debuting with $17 million. While not an amazing number, the film did manage to make back its $14 million budget opening weekend, which is a definite accomplishment. It may no be big money bragging rights, but its still bragging rights.

The Possession vs Lawless vs…Ooogieloves? Biff Bam Pop’s Box Office Predictions
The last weekend of the summer typically doesn’t have much to show in the way of box office, so expect the new releases to not do much business. Regardless, here’s what you can check out in theatres.
The Possession is yet another supernatural demon/ghost possession style flick, though one with an admittedly strong cast, including Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Kyra Sedgewick. Last week’s horror entry, The Apparition, did absolutely nothing in terms of dollars, so The Possession could find itself an audience this last week of summer. As a massive fan of Against Me!, this announcement was shocking to me. I didn’t realize “The Ocean” was a first person account of Tom’s life. I’m far too ignorant to imagine that a confident straight guy who fronts a bad-ass punk-rock band could be battling with such a deep sense of disconnection from himself. I am an open-minded (and open-hearted) person, but I just didn’t see that announcement coming in a million years.
Corina’s Cartoon Cuts: South Park 1%
Last week South Park took a stab at the #Occupy movement in the 1% episode; and as usual they hit the nail on the head in satirizing the inherent generalization of the 99%. With media posed to exploit any occupation they can find, South Park’s lesser known fast food hangout becomes the scene of #OccupyRedRobin in protest of the Presidential Fitness Test.
But all satire aside, the best part of this episode? It’s all about Cartman.
