31 Days of Horror: At the Mountains of Space Madness – Prometheus as Lovecraft
Science-fiction horror has had a rocky ride. It’s a genre filled with classics like The Thing and Pitch Black, and clunkers like “Doom”. But even if opinion on its artistic success was ultimately divided, Prometheus was a highly-anticipated movie from a number of perspectives. Long-time movie fans clutched the edge of their seat waiting to see Ridley Scott’s first epic science-fiction movie since the days of Blade Runner and Alien. Spectacle-seekers waited wide-eyed looking at the scope and beauty of the movie’s visuals. Art direction geeks were hooked by the return to the aesthetics of H. R. Giger.
One person was frustrated before it even hit the screen, however: Guillermo del Toro.

Trailer Time: Les Misérables
Well, here’s something to look forward to this coming December.
The trailer for the (musical) film version of Les Misérables has just hit the web and if you’re a fan of the stage production, it’s got everything you could hope for including: sweeping visuals, a story full of heart and soul and, of course, that powerful music. Tom Hooper (The King’s Speech) directs the adaptation of the Victor Hugo novel with a star-studded and diverse cast: Hugh Jackman (Jean Valjean), Russell Crowe (Inspector Javert), Anne Hathaway (Fantine), Amanda Seyfried (Cosette), Sacha Baron Cohen (Thenardier) and Helena Bonham Carter (Madame Thenardier) among many others.
What do you think? Can the singing voices of Jackman, Hathaway and Crowe pull this off? Is Les Misérables just another big budget Hollywood musical doomed to underachieve? Or will it be something special and sit in our hearts right next to that timeless and magical stage production?

Horror author Stephen King is, without a doubt, one of the most prolific authors of the last 50 years.
He’s released forty-nine novels, nine collections of short stories, five non-fiction books and sold over 350 million copies, if Wikipedia is to be believed.
On the silver screen and on television, King’s success is equally notable. With over forty movies and numerous TV miniseries, Stephen King has become one of the biggest names in not just horror, but entertainment.
Like any creator, some of the work is great.
Other work, not so much.
