The Words vs The Possession – Biff Bam Pop’s Box Office Predictions

It may be movie mania in Toronto with the Toronto International Film Festival, but across the rest of North America look for movie theatres to be quiet, as no major releases are out. Here’s the rundown.

The Words is the highest profile new release this weekend, and stars Bradley Cooper as a writer who must pay for stealing the work of another author, a plot that sounds similar to a little seen Woody Allen flick from a few years ago, You Will Meet A Tall, Dark Stranger. Advertising has been minimal for The Words and while it may find an audience with adults, I don’t expect the film to really resonate. Look for a second place debut with $7 million.

Find out what to expect from the rest of the top five after the jump!

As for the rest of the top five, look for The Possession to be able to hold on to the top spot in a slow weekend with $10 million. The already underperforming Lawless will drop to third with $5 million, The Expendables 2 will land in fourth place with $4.5 million while The Bourne Legacy will close things out with $4 million.

So, to recap, here are our predictions:

1) The Possession – $10 million
2) The Words – $7 million
3) Lawless – $5 million
4) The Expendables 2 – $4.5 million
5) The Bourne Legacy – $4 million

Be sure to check back on Sunday to see how the weekend turned out!
