Brave Any Line You Must To See Brave

I’ll start out saying that I’m biased. I’m utterly in love with Pixar and the movies that they make. I can even forgive them having to make a Cars 2. We all have to make money.  So I was prepared to love Brave and I did. Find out why after the jump.

Saturday At The Movies Exclusive: The Amazing Spider-Man

Too soon.

That’s what I thought when it was announced that Sony would be rebooting their Spider-Man franchise after Sam Raimi’s attempts to get a fourth film in his Toney Maguire -staring franchise fell flat. Regardless of what you thought about the failed third film (and I say failed only from an artistic standpoint, since Spider-Man 3 was still a huge financial success), there was a world created, a beloved character brought to life. Did we really need to start all over again so soon?

Turns out we did. Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man is an excellent entry in Peter Parker’s mythos, and like the best reboots, combines the old and new into the unique. Find more about what this Spidey freak thought of the film after the jump.

Corina’s Cartoon Cuts: Futurama AND Aqua Teen Hunger Force Return

It’s been awhile since the last Cartoon Cuts, mainly because the volume of references in South Park episodes can be hard to sum up. However, my love for animation is urging me to get going again with the return of Futurama and Aqua Teen Hunger Force.

futurama Season 7

Futurama is a show that parallels Family Guy in its cycle of being cancelled and then re-instated by the networks. We all feared Futurama was over around 2009 when the voice cast couldn’t reach a contract agreement with Fox, but later that same year fans were promised an ‘up to 26 episode’ new sixth season. Ironically, Futurama’s return in June 2010 “helped the network to its highest-rated night.. and its highest-rated Thursday primetime in the network’s history.” Supply and demand, baby. Despite the relative ‘meh’ value of the last season, 26 new episodes have just started rolling out, and are scheduled to air on Comedy Central through 2013.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force is a crazy show that has survived both terrible movie and boring video game adaptations, and doesn’t seem to care at all about consistency or character logic. It retitled itself Aqua Unit Patrol Squad for no good reason in 2011, and again as Aqua Something You Know Whatever in 2012. But that’s really the charm of this show; it’s a unique irreverent oddity, and it’s heading in to an incredible 9th season. I check out the first episodes (with minimal spoilers) after the jump…

Mat Langford’s Gaming World – Spider Man and Venom: Maximum Carnage

In keeping with the Spider-Man theme this week, and in anticipation of the new movie coming out, I figured it was only natural that I delve into the video game side of Spider-Man. There are a ton of Spider-Man games out there, with a few gems in the mix. The one that I loved however – and a LOT of people will disagree with me on this one – was Spider-Man and Venom: Maximum Carnage on the SNES.

David Mazzucchelli’s Daredevil: Born Again Artist’s Edition On The Wednesday Run – June 27, 2012

One of the most well respected artists working in sequential art forum on one of the most beloved comic book character story arcs to ever see print.

If there was only one reason to run to your local comic book shop today, this is it: David Mazzucchelli and Daredevil: Born Again Artist’s Edition.

Please, allow me to gush throughout my explanation.

I can still remember the summer of my thirteenth year. I was part of a group of close friends that bought and read comic books. We weren’t collectors, necessarily. Well, maybe some of us were. What we did do, as I’m sure many kids did, was trade comics with each other. We’d trade ones that we had already flipped through for ones that we really wanted to read. We’d sit on our porches, huddled over our piles of monthly periodicals: Fantastic Four, Batman, Team America, Scalphunter, talk about movies hockey players and offer a random comic book issue for another that enticed.
