The Hunger Games Scores Four In A Row, The Three Stooges Surprise, The Cabin In The Woods Fumbles – Biff Bam Pop’s Box Office Wrap-Up Report, Weekend of April 13th, 2012

Apparently North America is still hungry for The Hunger Games, as the film managed top the box office for the fourth weekend in a row. In the meantime, The Three Stooges reboot managed to perform better than expected, while The Cabin In The Woods didn’t scare up as much business as predicted. Here’s how the weekend turned out:

The Hunger Games brought it another $21.5 million to claim the top spot at the box office and bring it’s total here to $337 million, a simply staggering number to be sure. Will the film manage to hit $400 million? It’s hard to say, as the numbers are slowing down, but next week’s new release aren’t particularly appealing, which means The Hunger Games just might hold onto the top spot again.

Debuting at number two with $17 million is the Farrelly Brothers film The Three Stooges. I’d consider this a bit of a surprise, seeing as how reviews haven’t been kind to the film. However, word of mouth from audiences have been that the film is actually quite funny, so perhaps that’s why the film managed to perform a little stronger than anticipated. I don’t see this one lasting too long in theatres, mind you, so the studio should enjoy things while they can.

Debuting in third place $14.8 million is the horror film The Cabin In The Woods. This is the letdown of the weekend – there’s been a ton of hype around the film and the geek community should have come out to support a well-made, funny and intelligent horror film, but they didn’t. Truthfully, they missed out this weekend and the film likely won’t find it’s audience until it makes its way to Blu-Ray/DVD in a few months.

As for the rest of the top five, Titanic in 3D wound up in fourth place with $11 million, while the floundering American Reunion closed things out with $10 million.

So, to recap, here were our predictions:

1) The Hunger Games – $25 million
2) The Cabin In The Woods – $21 million
3) American Reunion – $15 million
4) The Three Stooges – $12 million
5) Titanic in 3D – $11 million
