Monthly Archives: August 2011
The Wednesday Run – August 31, 2011
DC Comics’ celebrated title has gone by many names in the past: JLA, Justice League of America, Justice League Task Force, Justice League Elite and Justice League Unlimited to name but a few.
To fans, the title has always just been known as “Justice League”.
And that’s what DC Comics, in their bold line-wide re-launch of all mainstream publishing titles, will be naming the comic that stars the legendary team-up of: Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, the Flash and Aquaman. Yep. All of the heavy-hitter heroes, in one monthly book. And it’s written and illustrated by corresponding legends of the art form, Geoff Johns and Jim Lee.
RDIO Cure – Perry Schwartz’s Picks and Pans From Our Favourite Music Sharing Service
Last week was a little light on the new releases side. The biggest new release appeared to be The R.E.D. Album by Game. I won’t pretend to be an expert on hip hop/rap, but I will say that I found the latest from Jay Z and Kanye West, Watch The Throne, much more listenable with bigger hooks and better melodies.
Other notable new releases included a Patti Smith best-of compilation titled Outside Society and Barbara Streisand singing a collection of songs from the great American songbook of Alan and Marilyn Bergman – like I said…it was a bit of a bummer week for new music.
Reboots and Recollections Part 2: JP Picks His Top 10 Comics in DC’s September Line-Wide Comic Book Re-launch

(Alas, for said collector!)
But there’s also the liberating, and sometimes slightly frightening feeling of starting over, fresh, from scratch. That’s the feeling that I enjoy when picking up a new comic book first issue from the store shelves. And that’s why I’m excited for next month.
Mat Langford’s Gaming World – Now you’re playing with power…SUPER power
Ahh, Super Nintendo. The great joy of my childhood. 16-bit graphics, “3D” games. Well, it just turned 20 years old, and aside from making me feel a slight bit geriatric, it has brought out some of my best gaming memories.
A Fan Of The Expo – JP Battles The Crowds, His Wallet And His Flat Feet For A Prized Possession
It’s a shame to say that I had preconceived expectations of the negative kind heading over to Toronto’s Fan Expo this year. Last year’s convention of all things comic book, sci-fi and anime was messed up. Too many people made for too many lines and staff, under the pressures of overcrowding and (rightfully) demanding patrons, broke down and showed their worst, most uncooperative and unaccommodating sides.
