Unknown – This is a thriller that stars Liam Neeson and starts off with a jolt as his character gets into a car accident Berlin. When he awakens, he finds out that his wife doesn’t recognize him and someone else has assumed his identity. Then assassins show up to try and kill him, which is when Neeson decides to take matters into his own hands and get back his life. The film capitalizes on the tough guy image Neeson has going thanks to the film Taken, but consensus is that Taken is the better film. Still, fans of Neeson will want to see this one.
Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules – This film continues to follow the adventures of teenager Greg Heffley, who is now dealing with the pressures of starting the 7th grade. On top of that, his older brother Rodrick keeps picking on him. The parents try to have the brothers be friends, but that only leads to disastrous results. The sequel is for fans of the books or the first film only.
The Adjustment Bureau – Based on a Philip K. Dick short story, this film stars Matt Damon and Emily Blunt and it is a Hitchcock-ian thriller about a young politician who falls in love with a ballerina, except that is not part of “their” plan, and “The Adjustment Bureau” is sent in to keep the lovers apart at all costs.
Cedar Rapids – This film stars Ed Helms, Anne Heche and John C. Reilly and is about an insurance salesman who is representing his company at a convention and lets loose for the first time in his life. The film got great reviews by critics but never really found a mass following (this could be because it only got a limited release). Consider this the hidden gem of the week.
The Eagle – This is an action film that stars Channing Tatum and Jamie Bell. Set in Roman-ruled Britain, the plot follows Tatum’s character trying to redeem his family’s name by going on a quest with his slave to find the missing Eagle of the Ninth. If he can find it, he will restore honor to everyone in his family. This is definitely a film for action fans.
Elektra Luxx – This film stars Carla Gugino as a pregnant porn star named Elektra Luxx, who is making some extra income by teaching sex classes to horny housewives. When someone from her past shows up, her life quickly goes downhill (in a comedic way) leading to a climax full of revelations. Timothy Olyphant, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Malin Akerman, Josh Brolin and Emmanuelle Chriqui also star.
